The seaside community of South Surrey and its 8-square-kilometer neighbor, White Rock, is also known as the Semiahmoo peninsula. The towns are located just two miles from the Peace Arch border crossing into the United States, and they offer a wide range of activities like golf, nature watching, hiking, biking and dining at sidewalk bistros.


Newton is another Surrey town centre, the one with the largest population with more than 91,000 residents. This town centre also features the highest diversity of residents. It is home to a Surrey Public Library branch, the Surrey Courthouse and City Hall, and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.


This outlying city is not part of Surrey, but is the 5th largest in British Columbia, and one of the most diverse. The Calgary Flames relocated their American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbottsford Heat, to this town. Plenty of other sports can be seen in this town, including other hockey teams and a rugby club.
